About The Gullah Farmers Cooperative: The Gullah Farmers Cooperative was formed in 2010, and today represents many Gullah farm operations in coastal counties of South Carolina. The Cooperative’s mission is to establish a profitable, significant local food market for Farmer Members who are honoring and continuing the agricultural traditions of our communities by growing fresh produce. The Cooperative’s facility on St. Helena Island provides packing, processing, aggregation, distribution and marketing services for current and new members, as well as other local farmers.
Delivery Driver - Job Description
Delivery drivers have an important position at the Cooperative. They make sure that fresh vegetables are delivered to customers - while following the food safety and quality rules that make sure the vegetables stay fresh.
Currently, delivery routes are generally running 1 - 3 days a week from the Cooperative’s facility on St. Helena Island to Charleston, with additional stops or routes possible going to Columbia, Bluffton and other areas within a 100 - 150 mile radius. Details:
Route start times vary, as early as 4:30 am some days and as late as 6pm on others.
The Cooperative truck is a 16ft reefer, with manual transmission.
This position requires loading, unloading and organizing of the cargo, using an electric stacker (training provided), and load bars.
Basic maintenance checks required for each trip.
Driver Job Requirements
At least one year delivery driving experience, preferably working with refrigerated trucks. Experience with food service is a plus.
Ability to consistently lift and stack items with a weight of 15 - 50 lbs., and to work with loading equipment in accordance with safety standards.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Valid Drivers’ license and clean driving record upon hire. Valid CDL preferred.
Up to date COVID vaccine required.

Packing crew members hold an important position on the team that washes, packs and processes
farmer produce for delivery to customers. Working together, the Crew team inspects incoming product for quality, operates the wash/pack and processing equipment, and ensures that product is packed and ready for delivery.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
-Building and labeling boxes for holding vegetables.
-Inspecting and pulling out different product items for quality, size and sort.
-Ensuring that products move efficiently through the wash/process equipment line.
-Packing products according to specifications.
-Lifting and stacking produce boxes and related equipment with a weight of 15 - 50 lbs, and using hand-trucks, carts, and pallet jacks to move product and equipment.
-Crew members must work efficiently, pay attention to detailed work, consistently achieve timing and quality targets, and comply with food safety and worker safety requirements. On the job training will be provided.
Crew Member Job Requirements :
-At least one year of employment experience, with experience in food service, warehouse distribution and/or farming is a plus.
-Ability to consistently lift and stack items with a weight of 15 - 50 lbs., and to work standing up in an airconditioned and wet environment.
-Success meeting deadlines, with motivation to complete detail-oriented work.
-Ability to learn and apply product quality standards to produce, as well as food safety and worker safety rules.
Experience with pallet jacks and hand trucks is a plus.
